Jackfruit Tree (Artocarpus heterophyllus)

This is a Jackfruit tree about 2 miles from my house. It's not the clearest photo because it was taken with my iPhone. It was chopped back a few years ago and looked terrible! For: Stan. Photo taken Aug. 8, 2016. I think it has fruit on it, also.

I wouldn't doubt somebody in the bay area has a small tree going in some backyard. Its just too obvious that it would be tried. They are hardier it turns out then they sound.
Also..it might be hard to spot a small one as they look pretty much generic shrub.

Small Jackfruit seedlings are extremely, extremely tender to the slightest cold below 50 - 55 degrees. I've lost seedlings in my greenhouse here (when I had my greenhouse). When they get larger they are hardier; however, not 32 degrees and not constantly below 45 degrees at night for a long period of time. It would be like growing a Croton outside in the Bay Area.
The tree in the photo has been there for a long time. Not sure how old it is. I would love to get the history on it! It was just about to the top of the second floor of the building when they hacked it back about 3 years ago or so.

Looks fantastic. It was just what? years ago? that they said it could not be grown in California. Same for Delonix regia and Royal palms.
Or Mangoes in the bay area.
Things are changing.
