Plumeria obtusa says give me light!

It looks really nice. I miss my plant, which was from my friend's garden in Hilo, HI back in 1998.

I need to get another one.

I like the Dwarf one thats pink. If I had known they did so well I would have tried that too.
Its done more growing in two years then P.rubra does in five. My plastic pink has done well-it came with the p.o....but not like the P.obtusa.

I had the dwarf pink one, also. It died in the pot. My neighbor has one in his front yard. It's doing really well.

Large dwarf pink Singapore plumeria is very expensive here.

That's strange I grew Plumeria rubra varieties up in the SF Bay Area. They grew very well and pretty fast. They do like a lot of feedings, though.

I can see this doing very well in those epoxy fake oak barrels in no time.
Its a fast grower Andy..I toss fertilizer on it..but I do that for all my plants. Its still faster then all the P.rubra's.
Its the happier Plummy in a pot of the two.

P. obtusa 'Singapore' does like the heat! It grow very well with fertilizer and water. It needs more water than most P. rubra varieties.

It is still the most tender of all the Plumeria trees that are grown in California. (there's one exception: Plumeria stenophylla, which isn't too common)

I saw a pic of a P.pudica in Vista that was at least 6' and dense with many blooms on it. I've never read of anybody growing it in California.

P. pudica is a pretty common plant here with many plumeria people. My former neighbor has several 6 to 10' tall trees in his yard. I didn't take any pics of them when I went 3 or 4 weeks ago. I guess I'll have to go back and get some pics. They were all flowering. They're not my favorite looking plumeria...that's why I didn't take any pics. Plus they don't have fragrant flowers. lol

Speaking of Plumeria trees. My trees are burning in this heatwave. It's horribly HOT here! :>((

98f today in Hayfire Andy...its HOT. Hottest day in years I think.
I did a quick round with the hose..just make sure I dont lose something.

I know the feeling. We had the hottest night, last night and this morning. The low was this morning was 80 degrees; however, the temp went from 85 to 90 degrees (in most of San Diego) at 11:15 pm because of a southeast wind. It stayed around 90 degrees until about 4:00 a.m. this morning. Ugh! I've never seen this happen here before (not get quite this hot in the late night, anyway).

We had back to back mid 60's nights. Nice to get up and the floor was warm already. I could go for more of that. 90's for highs? No. Too hot for me. The central valley is out if I ever move and maybe Florida. Deserts would be my death.
You are used to what you are used too I guess.

Today was only in the mid 90's. The last three days were low 100's. It was 104 - 106 at the coast yesterday. It was hotter at the coast than in the low desert. That's the Santa Ana's for you.

Here is a Plumeria- a Celadine growing outdoors in Santa Clara.
I got to try next year. Someplace. I have way too much shade from my home's height on this small lot and that ash tree.

But- this Plumeria is looking great.

It looks great! In a few years it'll be pretty good size.

I wish I had a photo of the large 10' tall Plumeria 'Celadine' in Mission San Jose, Fremont. I believe it was in a protected spot. If it's still there it should be much larger.

My Celadine in Hayward was about 5' tall. It was in planted next to the house under a big overhang. It lived through the freeze of 1990 being covered with plastic and a cardboard box. I think I had it in the ground for 3 years. I gave that plant away (with tons of plants) when I moved to San Diego.
