This little hummingbird is protecting his feeder which is above him. He is sitting on a stick which was a support for my cherry tomatoes on the deck. It is about 3 ft away from the feeder. I pulled the plant out but do not have a heart to get rid of the stick. He sits there all day long and will not share. As soon as some other hummingbird wants to use it he will chase it away. They are very territorial. This picture is taken from my computer (through window) so I have a good view of his behaviour.
We have about dozen of hummingbird feeders around so there is not shortage of food. This is H. Anna's and I believe that they fly south for winter. H. Rufus stays all winter long.

Amy, they are very interesting characters to watch and they are not shy.

That's a Ruby? We get quite a few Anna's fighting over the plants in flower around the house.
I saw one today go to the Mango with new red colored foliage.
Now that you remind me..I'm seeing a lot of them Klahanie. Migrating to my yard? lol.

They are fun to watch Feverfew, as their behaviour is not at all as the other birds we have around. Just watching few at the feeder right now:-)
