Thanks Amy.
Sheila, as quoted by my local GC, Bluebell Nursery and Arboretum:
An unusual shrub or eventually small tree, Cornus officinalis has masses of attractive yellow flower clusters covering all the branches in late Winter. These flowers are followed by red fruit in late summer. The mid green leaves have handsome red and orange autumn tints before falling. Established plants have interesting peeling bark. Cornus officinalis is a fantastic plant for late winter interest and will flower best in a nice, sunny position.
We must compare notes next winter. ?

Thank you Dawn . . . and lucky you, to live near Bluebell Nursery! I've looked at their website and wondered if I could drive that far, because it looks great.

It would be quite a drive Sheila. It's the arboretum that's amazing, the trees will look amazing right now. Robert the owner came to ours and gave us advice when we planted our woodland. it's literally 3 miles from me. If you ever consider it, let me know.
