I find them invaluable. They are tough and they flower from late spring to the first frosts. Brilliant plants!

This is 3rd Seedling flowering, from a packet of mixed seed sown this Spring. That's, so far, 1 red, 1 purple and this, others next year? There is another on the left with potential flowers. Will it, won't it?

Lovely.....

I actually took a cutting from the purple earlier this week. There was just one small non flowering side shoot.

I love them too ,they go on flowering forever , Sue I've also found that you can layer a stem which will root ....just pop a piece of bent wire or bend a stick over the stem in the ground cover with soil ... you should have a nice new plant next spring ...

I think it's a good idea to propagate as they seem short lived in my garden

Same here Dawn......

That is how I root my Camellias, but takes longer than a year.

When they go woody, I never know whether I should cut into the old wood or not but if you dont they go leggy dont they. Still a favourite of mine though.

I was wondering that Dawn, as many plants don't like being cut back into old wood. Think take cuttings, see that they are rooting then cut back so if they curl up and die, you would have replacements.

I agree, I take cuttings. Reminds me, I must take a few.

Have just taken the flowering stem off your Salvia Amstrad, and managed to get some cutting material off the small side shoots. And the flower head is in a little vase.

Brilliant. I'm pleased you managed to get some side shoots, will be worth it if we have a bad winter. ??

The main plant is in a pot to overwinter, where I will put the pot I don't know!

Im sure you wiill find somewhere. Im so pleased I sent when i did as the frosts have wrecked my others, my cuttings are safe in the cold frame though.
