Santol. It was a gift as a seedling 8 almost 9 years ago now. Near the national fruit of the Philippines. I grew it indoors for 7 years..put it out last spring. I was told- almost laughed at and put down- by "experts" it would never survive here.
I see new growth buds all over this small tree.
Fruiting is the next new goal.

Stan,
That's incredible! See if you never plant it, you will never know if it'll grow. I say this to anyone who tells me a plant can't grow here.

This next week...2007 cold rolls into the bay area. I will cover. I learned. The mango will be covered and heated. Maybe Christmas lights on the Papaya..and indoors for Orchids and those types that are goners below 30f.
As I learned before..4 days off covering in winter provides years of reward. I also learned that no cover and years of pain!..

Yes, they are definitely worth covering. The cold weather most likely won't last too long, let's hope, anyway. It's is suppose to cool down here next week, also. It's going to be a far cry from the 86 degree weather we had on Thursday! I see only low 60's for most of next week. Yikes!! And mid-to-upper 40's for lows.

Thanks Junna. Like a milagro- they changed the forecast from freezing for four days..to rains and mild instead. The Santol is going to make it! No problems now.

Stan,
I saw the change in temps here, also.
It's showing low-to-mid 50's for lows, instead of the mid-to-upper 40's now for next week. It's so crazy!

The tv Weatherpeople to wondered "What happened?" Really it went in less then 24 hours from a deep freeze to...just another January week of rains off and on.
I wonder if its still frigid in the PNW?

Hello Juna. I'm not sure if I have the sweet or sour Santol...doesn't matter either one is good.
What i want to do is fertilize it in spring with "flower fertilizer" see if I can get it to do that, maybe fruit. Its old enough at 8 years or so. 7 as a houseplant!

Stan,
I know it's so crazy! I see you're getting lots, and lots of rain right now. I just talked to my mom, she said it's cold, raining and windy!
