Very early flowering species from Central Asia for a well-drained soil in a sunny spot. It is only a few inches tall and would get lost in a border, and as it does not like too much summer wet, is best grown in a pot, bulb frame or raised bed.

Sbg - the Alpine Garden Society website says it has a "tuber large and corky with several growing points", while a vendor's website claims "more floriferous with age." I take this to mean it can have more than one stem, but it may need a more fertile soil than in my raised bed. It is also self sterile, so I won't get any seedlings from my solitary plant.

the several growing points will mean it produces more flower stems and the older it is the more growing points :o)
