They're mass-planted in shady or semi-shaded areas here in San Diego.

They're very easy to grow. Snails love them! Snails love to eat the flowers.

I'm full of envy... I've got one in my conservatory but it's not anywhere ready for flowering yet!

It should start to flower soon. They start flowering outside here in San Diego, CA. in late January through April and sometimes into early May.

Ours needs more light...... going to move it.
Kaffir Lily......is a different flower altogether here, the name had been changed to Schizostylis, and again to Hesperantha, Kaffir is not an acceptable word anymore!!

Kaffir is still used for this lily here, also to the plum (Harpephyllum caffrum), which is very widely grown here. I know it's the name of the indigenous people of South Africa. Like you say I don't think it's a politically correct word for the people.
