I remember that totally 'dead' look so well. Its only when yo go in winter that you realise what a naturally inhospitable place the NE Coast is. I gained such a respect for the settlers when I saw the scene from 30,000 feet!

True, it can be quite brutal and unforgiving, but also very rich & plentiful depending on how you work it. Many of the settlers died because of this.

Black rocks and Ice. But its an incredible city. I wouldnt have missed it. Just the once for me I think...but unforgettable. :)

Gosh that looks bleak and inhospitable!

6 Mar, 2017

I find it quiet spectacular - for a bike ride, a run or an evening stroll. It will be bursting in color and life in a few weeks.

If we had one rock like that in our parks we would be wondering where it came from ... we would have to go further north to find rocks & waterfalls ...

7 Mar, 2017

This is actual bedrock Manhattan is build upon. I was surprised to find an actual waterfall in Central Park.

If I ever went to NY, it would be Central Park that I would like to visit most of all.

8 Mar, 2017

I think you'd enjoy it Sheila, especially when it's not so cold.

9 Mar, 2017

It's beautiful! However, it looks so COLD!!! lol! :>))

It's been in the 80's here almost all last week. This week may get into the low 90's. It's almost too hot, already!
:>((

It's extremely cold yes, no joke. But the ice skating rink is in full swing.

I just saw on the news that New York City may get the most snow ever recorded in the month of March tomorrow. They said almost the whole Northeast is under a Blizzard Warning. That's pretty amazing for March! Stay safe and warm.

13 Mar, 2017

Thank you so much. Seems like I'm right in the path of it. Next couple days will be quite interesting

13 Mar, 2017

I'm so sorry to hear you are in the path of the horrible blizzard! It must very scary for any time of year. :>((

14 Mar, 2017

Thanks, yeh, they can be really annoying, disrupting the daily routine & climbing out the window so I can shovel snow away from my front door is always "fun." When will the electricity go back on? Do I have enough food to last a couple days? The worst part is the constant howling of the wind. The sound is maddening to me.

14 Mar, 2017

Wow! That's horrible having to climb out a window to shovel snow away from the front door! And having enough food and electricity on, would be so strange! I can't imagine, as I've never lived in any city where it snowed.

I do wish you the best of luck! Take care and be safe.

Thank you so much. I can't wait for it to pass - sometime on Wednesday it will finally be over. I hope this is the last one of the season. Enjoy the wonderful weather in San Diego. I hear the drought is finally over and the deserts are bursting with color. That must be an awesome sight.

14 Mar, 2017

I hope it's not as bad as they're saying it may be!

The weather here is in a summer pattern. It's cooler at the coast 70's and upper 80's and low 90's inland.

Yes, the drought is over. Yay!

I wanted to go out to the desert today...maybe tomorrow. There's a super bloom going on right now. It won't last long because it's around 100ºF out there.

14 Mar, 2017

You should go see the desert. This might be your only opportunity from what I hear it happens once per decade.

14 Mar, 2017

I did see the super bloom back in 2005. It was so spectacular! The flowers were growing on the sides of the mountains down to the desert floor in the Anza Borrego Desert. We had record rains here (more rain than this past season). It was the big rains (2004/05 season) that broke the previous 7 year drought. We always seem to be in a drought in San Diego.

The 2005 was the year that Death Valley had a lake on the valley floor (from so much rain). It hadn't happened since the 1930's I believe.

Sounds like a siege, Paul. Can you still get to work, or are communications paralysed?

14 Mar, 2017

So far so good. The storm isn't as bad as predicted. All communications are operable at the moment, but we are still feeling the brunt of it. Lot's of rain/sleet & wind so far. Thanks Sheila!

14 Mar, 2017

We're all feeling sympathy for you Paul, so I have put up a photo of snow in my garden - just for you! At least the blue sky will be a cheering reminder for you :)

14 Mar, 2017

LOL thanks Sheila. I just shoveled my driveway & the front walk. It's a wet heavy snow and my muscles are so sore, but feels good to get the job done. Lot's of high winds, howling winds sounds like a cow dieing in the driveway, lol. The skies seem to be brightening. And now....what's my favorite time? HOT CHOCOLATE O'CLOCK!

14 Mar, 2017

Bathgate:

So glad to hear you survived the storm well! Hopefully, you will be getting some warm spring-like weather soon! :>)

15 Mar, 2017

yes this deep freeze is still lingering over us. My garden is in "stop motion." Those plants must be very confused.

16 Mar, 2017

I bet your plants are confused! You had mild weather then went back into the deep freeze. Will they come back when it warms up?

16 Mar, 2017

Well it depends what stage they are at. Flowers would just turn black and that's it. If it's just a bud, it's safe. Of course the annuals are all done. Some plants like roses, echinacea will rebloom.

16 Mar, 2017

Wow! At least some plants will come back. It sounds miserable!

It's been like the middle of summer here the last week or so. It's suppose to cool down a bit by next week, though. Maybe a little more rain, which is great! It's already getting very dry with these mid-80's to low 90's here in inland San Diego.
