These Butterfly palms are ready to grow through the laths in the sealing of the Botanical Building. Photo taken Jan. 8, 2017.

I didn't think they could grow so well in shade anywhere.

Yes, definitely. Did you see the pic of the Foxylady palm in the left side corner of this pic? It's growing through the laths and outside the Botanical Building.

Several of the plants in the Botanical Building grow outside the laths. It looks so funny! :>))

Its like when they re did the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco,a ornate large Victorian greenhouse a few years back..they realized that some of those plants could do just as well outdoors. The Chamaedorea palms and the Mexican tree ferns for example are now in the botanical garden.
Now,the COF is strictly hot and humid loving or..the high tropics section that is still warm and humid all year.

Yes, I don't understand why they planted huge Caryota gigas (which had to be cut down), Wodveitchia and some others in the Botanical Building, they get so large and like the full sun. The Botanical Building should be for plants which like semi-shade.
