Banana at the table.

Oh wow! Never seen them like that here.

Me neither. My first ever banana harvest. My wife did that as she's used to seeing them in the Philippines.
Later,she cut it up and gave some to a neighbor.
Now,just the wait for them to yellow up.

They should be very good once ripe.

I'm surprised that's your first bunch of bananas. My grandmother used to have big bunches of bananas for 40 years in Hayward. She used to give her bananas a big bag of chicken manure in spring every year. She had big, deep trenches around the bananas so it was very easy to water them.

The last time I tried- about 7 or 8 years ago,it was with Goldfinger. In days,gophers ate it. That was on the side of my house that faces an empty lot. Gopher heaven.
These are planted next to the rental cottage. They are very friendly people ...relatives-lol...who know my walking around that cottage is for the garden.
For 15 years renters were never family and I could never plant over there. When I tried to get something going..plants would disappear.
Really..its only the last 3 years that I have been able to plant up with more then junk plants. The cottage back yard has the Mango trees too.

Yes, I remember the gophers. Ugh! They're such a problem in some areas.

It's great you have a place for the bananas. With all the rain they should grow very well. Bananas love water.

I hope my bananas do well this year. The ground is already starting to dry out here with the hot weather. I hope we receive more rain!

They are good. 2 or three bites and done! Its hard to say this was even a good year for tropical fruits that ripen so late in winter. The number of sunny days was low this winter. Hours of sun were very low compared to the usual winter.
If next year is normal,then I can judge. But,I noticed the small ones I tried bought from the market were not do much sweet as having apple flavor as the store's Chiquita.
Guava's were good. I was very surprised all three kinds including the more tender pink held up perfect to cold and all the rains.

Mango's Andy..they are the ONLY tropical in the bay area that are always sweeter then any store bought. It helps they ripen during the warm months.

The small bananas are the best! You can eat a couple. :>))
I remember my grandmother's bananas in Hayward. They were the best bananas I'd had ever eaten. She took such good care of them. She had a huge yard with big basins around the bananas clusters and put bags of chicken manure every spring around them (she said this was her secret).

Next year most likely won't be so wet. It's very rare to have more than one very wet season in a row.

Yes, guavas love rain! All the huge guava trees here are growing like I've never seen in winter before. They're taking in all that wonderful water so happily!
