Mango Tree (Mangifera indica) Flowering

Mango Tree (Mangifera indica) Flowering (Mangifera indica (Mango))

This mango has so many flowers. It's in someone's back yard and is growing into the power lines. It looks smaller than it is because of the distance I took the photo. Photo taken March 27, 2017 in San Diego, CA.

I've been looking..never see one around here. Twice I thought I had spotted them. The first turned out to be a Loquat and the other an Avocado. Small plants just above the fence line.
The best time to plant one here is 20 years ago..as the old Japanese saying goes.

So many small avocado trees tend to look like mango trees, especially when flushing growth (red leaves).

There's so many mango trees here in peak bloom. I just discovered several mango trees in a neighborhood a few miles from me. I need to get pics before they all finish flowering.

The best time to plant a mango would have been 26 years ago...just after the 1990 freeze. I told many people replant tropicals! The chance of a 1990 freeze is extremely rare.

Andy,my in laws sent from Florida some what I think are Hurricane palm seedlings. D.album I believe its called.
I mean for free and a dozen or so? I might get some nice potted palms one day.
I get the feeling they are not strong growers in Southern California and nobody has them north of Santa Barbara most likely.

Dictyosperma album or Hurricane Palms are not hardy up there. They grow pretty well here in San Diego. There's some really nice ones at the San Diego Zoo for many years. They don't grow as tall as in s. Florida or in the tropics, though.

Good luck with that palm, it hates indoor conditions. I tried them several times up there. They don't grow much in a pot and need very high light levels to thrive.

Here's a few old pics. They actually look much better than these pics now.
