NAtive Bluebells seen on our walk in Allestree Park Derbyshire yesterday

When we first moved to our present home just over 7 years ago, what thought were going to be native bluebells in the garden turned out to be the dreaded Spanish variety. I dig or pull them up every year...and they're still coming grrrrr!

Same here Waddy We had Spanish variety when we moved here and they are spreading ,I must take drastic steps to eradicate them ,we also have real English bluebells along the ditch edge we mustn't let the two mix there's a big distance between them ...

The Spanish Bluebells ought to be pulled up really. They are a lighter blue and larger flower than the native ones. The native ones are a deep blue and have thin long flowers.

I've pulled up or dig up loads since moving here, but still the blighters keep coming!

The only thing I can suggest Waddy is sieve the soil where you dig as the bulbs can be so tiny.

Not really possible Linda as they tend to come up between other plants or even through them!

How great to see some true English bluebells....we have spent years trying to eradicate the Spanish beggars, unfortunately our neighbour is cultivating them, so it's an impossible task, what with them and the wild garlic!!......but!! we won't be beaten!

Smelt wild garlic yesterday when we were out on a walk along the Cromford Canal.

Just a point, has anyone done the Woodland Bluebell Watch? If not please do.
