Delospermum dwarf succulent

Are these the ones that open and close with the sun Sue ?

These are great aren't they? I saw lots on the dunes in Portugal one year. Keep meaning to try them but never seem to get round to it.

Amy, I don't think they close when the sun is not out. I took a photo of Sparaxis at the same time but it was out of focus and when I went back out this evening the Sparaxis was closed but not this Delospermum.
Stera, I know they need dry conditions, hence them growing on dunes. I believe they are South African in origin.

Pretty colours they remimd me of the flowers when I was a child we called them everlasting flowers.

Amy, all the flowers were closed this morning, but came out this afternoon, not sure if they were the same flowers or new ones.

Most of mine died this winter.

That's a shame Karen. They do go dormant overwinter, but too damp spells death for them.

They were fine over last winter, but hey-ho. You live and learn. They were superb last summer too. :(

Maybe then, I will take some cuttings to overwinter just in case.

Sue I've just realized I was thinking of Mesembryanthemums the flowers look quite similar , they only open when the sun is shining ...

You really need to take cuttings​ to be on the safe side, we grew them when we first moved south and they​ came back every year, then a particularly wet winter finished them off, we had a beautiful cerise one with a spread of two feet, in the front garden....

These only open in sun too Amy.
