Aw,they are so patient....probably a second clutch,as Julia says..and oh joy! our resident Goldfinches brought four babies to the feeder this morning! I am so delighted to watch these little birds fluttering like mad,and darting everywhere...just heartwarming to see they have survived..:o)

I've never seen the nest empty there's always one or the other sitting on it , maybe your right it could well be a second clutch if it is I don't know when the first lot hatched and flew I look at it several times a day ....
Sandra you are lucky Goldfinches are so beautiful sounds like it could be a regular in your garden each year ,it obviously feels safe and secure with you ...x

someone might have slipped a golf ball in there? such patience. I agree with Tpb, squirrels would have no trouble getting into the nest. That's a lovely shot of her sitting.

She's still sitting ,I found an egg shell on the ground under the nest this morning guess its like a production line she's turning them out one after the other Lol .. I did spy a squirrel under the holly tree this morning not 12ft from the nest Hmm ........

Thanks 3p , Yes this nest , we had noticed mum had left the nest for a day which was unusual we thought the nest was empty but then we noticed 'poo' on the ground under the nest which made us suspicious , OH got up the ladder to put his hand in to check it out and Hey Presto two new additions to our family , :o))

Brilliant good on your hubby to check yes if like black birds she will leave to feed her self up and scout where food is for the little ones to feed dad will be watching the nest while mums away . With the black birds the mum left with dad for a good while mum did nt return but dad was sitting on the tree over hanging my garden in the grave yard next door watching the nest by my back door up in the Wisteria . Then the bad winds came while I was shopping which blew the nest out killing all the babies when I got back.

Always nice to hear good news, Amy! Hurrah for Ms. Dove. She must be exhausted after keeping that squirrel at bey for 3 months!
Sad story, Tpb. I have a pair of buntings who have made a nest under the oil tank shelter and a blackbird has been visiting the area..grumbling and chattering. I've been watching for the little buntings but the nest seems to have been deserted. Babies have flown, I hope.
