Wow I bet thats a sight to see.

Yes, the flowers are in clusters...sometimes the flower spike will flower for two seasons.

Like a Rhododendron then. A lot of your plants out there seem to repeat flowering well .

It's similar, the flower spikes are very different, though.

Yes I can see they are.☺

Here's a closer view of some plumeria flowers. It's a Canary yellow variety.

Around August, mine will look like that ones little brother-ha.
I started it in 1998. Lucky too. Its a cutting from the original plant killed at 28f that year. For some reason the cutting also outdoors just got some burned trunk, but lived on.

The cutting? Only because the newspaper lady broke a piece of the original Celadine that summer with an errant throw is why I have it.

This is a pretty large plant...not super tall around 8' maybe? It's very wide, though.

It's always good to get cuttings from broken branches. I had a large 6' branch break from my pink or red large tree. Most of the branches are starting to grow now.

I was thinking about the super sized plumeria that split in San Diego- the one planted in the late 50's? If the base of those huge branches had been re -rooted? You would have the instant look of a giant Plumeria.
I read that Disneyland in the 50's couldn't find enough tropical tree's to fill it so they did things like cut off huge branches of old California pepper tree's..and stuck them in the ground at Jungle land- they actually rooted.
As I get older..short cuts to the old plant look are more important-ha.

The large Plumeria 'Makanani?" That one was planted in 1960. I have pics of it. There's actually much larger ones here in San Diego.

It's this one, right?

Larger? wow. That z24 vs z16 (*Sunset) can look wide when Plumeria are tossed in.
This winter was worse then I thought it was. Summer recovery has been very slow despite Andy, May and June being warmer then average in highs and lows.

My friend who's a horticulturist is suppose to get some photos of very large plumeria trees here in San Diego for me. He said this one is small to compared to some of the ones he's seen in San Diego County. I have seen taller ones...just usually not more than 35' wide. My big plumeria tree had a spread of 24 ft (I trimmed it back a bit, though)...it was taking over the back yard!

Stan, you'll get more heat. Summer just started a week or so ago. It's suppose to get very hot and humid starting this week. A strong monsoonal flower is setting up. That's when we get those horrible hot, humid nights! Ugh! Most of the plants love it, though.

That really looks like the big brother to mine. Right now about half the leaves are full sized, the others getting there.
This pot had two different Plummies in them. So,they had t put up with me pulling them out of a ten gallon pot, taking a knife and at first I tried to cut them ..I found it was better to just pull them apart.
So,my best Celadine went back into the 10 with some fresh soils added- the other smaller went into a large plastic pot.
The larger is fine..the smaller lost a couple of branches.
I think its a case of bite the bullet this year..and next year Celadine should really get off to an even better start.

Happy 4th Andy!

Stan,

Happy 4th of July!

Plumerias are pretty tough, they tolerate a lot of root disturbance without too much ill-effect.
