Tallest King palm in town..

I like palms like this as they don't shadow things beneath them its a lovely one Stan.

Yes,they give you the height like a tree would..but nothing below fights for sun..and palm roots are in now way as greedy as any large tree.
I knew then,I would never plant a tree.

One big exception Penny. My large Modesto Ash I planted in 1979? Gives great shade to my car. If not for it,getting in the car would be like taking a seat in Hades!...so ahhh,shade.
But- it does slow my full sun loving dry plants down a bit. A tradeoff.

At least you have a large tree then it sounds lovely by its name Stan . At least it keep s your car cool plants can with stand the heat better than you even if they are lacking the light and sun on them.

That tree..I thought was full grown..is still getting taller. It might be 40+'..or 13 meters? When I started to plant under it and ON it? That extra water gave it a boost!
I could never cut it down. It was like a 4' pencil when I planted it...now I cant wrap my arms around the trunk.

That king palm looks taller than 30' tall. It looks great!

Just think if this tree was facing south-west it would be much taller.

It was pruned earlier this year to a single spear. That's it. A trunk and a spear. Not a single frond.
I think its just the lighting..but does that crown look purplish?

No, it doesn't look purplish, sometimes Kings have a darkish look to the crownshaft, though.

Pruning King palms to the spear in very risky! Sometimes they may get diseases that can kill them, just like P. canariensis.
