Northern Mockingbird

Northern Mockingbird

Aka: American Nightingale. She's nesting in my Juniper trees which are loaded with her favorite berries. I'm surprised she allows me to get this close. Intruders can expect to get dive-bombed. She can imitate over 200 sounds to a 'T' including barking dogs, door knocks, squeaky gates, fire engines, car alarms, etc.

She is lovely and it's a good photograph. I went out into the garden early this morning and fed the birds. Some are having another lot of babies to feed. The Blackbirds wait for me to appear with the food, and as soon as I turn my back to go inside, they are down gathering up the pellets.

It's very rewarding to connect with nature on such an intimate level. She's knows she's safe in my trees with all the food she can eat, fresh water and a cool bath. She pays me back with beautiful music.

Sometimes when it imitates other birds. My only issue is they can sing all night long usually right outside my window.

Thank you. I happen to be in the right place at the right time. Do you think the nightingale could have hatched out of the egg & the mum threw out the empty shell?

No definately not Bathgate as I ve had a black bird nest right by my back door a few years back she had about 4 babies no egg shell was to be seen in or out of her nest at any time after they hatched. The egg shell that was on floor was half an egg shell . I still have the photos of the ones by my back door.
