Eucomis Aloha Lily Nani (Eucomis vandermerwei)

As much as I don't really like pink I think that this recent purchase is a cracking Eucomis.

It looks very beautiful! Well, nani in Hawaiian mean pretty.

Not my usual colour but I think that it's because the flowers almost have a metalic shade of pink against foliage which is a good strong green that makes it work for me.

Yes, you are right...it does look almost metallic. And the contrast with the green is perfect.

Yes, very nice metallic green leaves. And the flower with its tops look like a pineapple. I know pineapple lily is one of its common names.

It's another genus that I'm building up a bit of a collection of now.

It has some really interesting flowering plants.

This looks interesting...Eucomis vandermerwei. I might try a variety ut keep it in the greenhouse over the winter. Shirley sent me a bulb and it grew fine but died over the winter. There are some really lovely ones.

Meanie,

I was at a nursery the other day and I saw Eucomis 'Leia'. It had purple flowers. I had never seen this one before...it was very beautiful! You should check that one out. :>))

Karen - Eucomis vandermerwei is not hardy. It is also proving to be shy to bloom for me.

Delonix - there are three varieties in the Aloha series. Golden State Bulb Growers are responsible for their development.

Meanie,

That makes sense. I used to drive by Golden State Bulb Growers on my way to Monterey (even though I wasn't aware of the place). It's located between Watsonville and Moss Landing.
