lol Linda I think your friends are right. Its done well though keep mine in a pot for this reason that size would take up half my garden.

oh I love Gunnera... Linda, you fortunate woman. The only plant that I can grow (and it's an annual) with leaves even approaching that size is Ricinus communis. (and Drat..it is poisonous and foreign to our environs so I can't grow it because the deer might try to eat it!) I have lots of room and water at hand but it won't take our winters.
It is so huge it's like a little forest all by itself.

I grow it in Scotland and there are many Scottish gardens that have it. The trick is to keep it warm in winter, Lori.

ah yes... with our winters I'd have to bring it indoors or get it an electric blanket... minus 30-40 C. average for about 2 wks. usually. I pray for lots of snow in the early winter to cover all my perennials with nature's blanket!
