I bought the original bulbs of this in 1994 on a visit to Germany. Now it fills in between daylilies.

I have volcanic soil. Standing water is a puddle that lasts more than 5 seconds. But it does dry out very quickly.

Is the Azores on a volcano then.
How about giving them ice cubes if water dries so quick.

I live on the northwest side of the island, and sometimes I can see the water agitated by low level volcanic activity in the sea. There is also an area of sulfur vents in the center of the island. The last big eruption was in 1957 on Faial (2 islands over). If you want to sleep at night, never go to the site run by the government that shows all the low level earthquakes that happen just about every day. We don't feel most of them, but once in a while there is one that will make the evening news.

I bet that is interesting to see for the first time the water agitating . I dont like the thought of sulfur being there its poisonous does it affect your breathing ?
lol so what you dont know wont hurt/worrry you if you never visit the centre . Its very unlikely I will ever visit local holiday s places here let alone the Azores Wylie but I do find your area of the Azores interesting and a beautiful place despite the earthquakes which I suppose you get use to.
So you have very fertile soil then I can understand why you have farmers around you with pasture land.
