These tomatoes are delicious but only a few so far.

My tomato plants were all loaded down with tomatoes, but I made the mistake of promising all my neighbors to give them some. I made good on my promises, but now there are none left for me. They are starting to blossom again so I'll be eating some of these. Cherokee Purple has a rich smokey/sweet flavor and very meaty - really nice.
What kind of tomatoes are you growing? You should get a few. When does the cold weather start for you?

Hi Amy! With a fully ripened tomato, just scoop out some pulp with a spoon. Put it into a kitchen strainer, then wash it though with cool water until you just have seeds left in the strainer. Put seeds into a paper envelop, label it, store in a cool, dark, dry place. My desk drawer works well for me.
How do you like the Manx Marvels? They look incredible. I'm going to look for them for next year. I'm sure you'd love Cherokee Purple. Thanks :)

Hi Paul thanks for that info .I did that this evening I've left the seeds to dry on some absorbent kitchen paper , would you like me to return some of the seed to you ? .the Toms. are big and juicy not particularly sweet but then I like a tomato to have a good deep tomato taste which this has ,they are delicious .... BTW the other people I gave spare plants to at our horticultural society are having good crops as well so good results all round :o)) if you remember I was putting some of my plants in huge pots and some directly into the ground the plants in the pots have done marginally better probably due to me watering into the trays under the pots !

Mine are just cocktail tomatoes, very sweet. I did the same, telling the neighbors and giving away the string beans! Never know about the weather in Vermont. For instance, just beautiful today, but then cool. Most everybody is complaining about the cold weather. Ours has been:no sun.
And quite dry now. Was a bit late planting also.

Hi All
I have a different method with tomato seeds for saving.
Take out the pulp with seeds and put in a glass jar with water and put the lid on leave on a sunny window sill about 6 days later rinse them off and dry them.
Fermentation removes germination inhibitors and the gelatinous sheath from seeds.
Amy the MM seed came from Canada

Thanks Andy yes I was going to ask you if you wanted any seed back since they came from you but suspect you have an abundance yourself this year if not let me know , in fact I've just found your instructions as to how to deal with the seeds I thought I had mislaid them your way sounds fun with the mould & smell etc . Lol ..I'm going to do some that way and some Bathgates way and label them to see if there's any difference when it come to germination ...
