I think this may be Hesperantha coccinea. Does it have a bulb or a rhizome? Amaryllis has flowers before the leaves appear, and the flowering size bulbs are huge. The flower are also trumpet shaped. Both are autumn flowering.

Wylie, mine from which this came was given to me about 20 years ago as Jersey Lily. It has bulbs.
I also have in the garden, Hesperanthus coccinea Major (red) will compare when it flowers, and several other different Hesperanthus (used to call them Schizostylis.)

It just doesn't look like an Amaryllis, and that there are leaves present means it probably isn't one. The leaves don't come up until after the flowers have faded. My earliest blooming one is almost entirely faded, and still no leaves. My Hippeastrum seedlings, however, have remained with foliage all summer. One of the common names for Amaryllis is Naked Ladies because of the lack of foliage. An Amaryllis flower head is very circular, as well. Unfortunately, Amaryllis is a name given to a wide assortment of species. It is a very naughty species that will cross with a lot of other members of the family Amaryllidaceae, and that has been going on for a very long time - over 100 years.

What else?
See who else is growing Amaryllis belladonna (Belladonna lily).
See who else has plants in genus Amaryllis.
