I love the dark stems. A very pretty plant. I have it down by the stream and it's a forest. Plants average about 4 ft. tall.

Didn't know this plant before but I like the photo of it! Unfortunately, not one for our balcony! LOL!

Thanks all , Lori I wasn't aware it was such a lover of water until yesterday when we were walking in the Norfolk Broads I could see masses of this plant growing along the water margins , I didn't know it was a wild plant I'm surprised it grows so well in my garden ..

It grows well in the wild.. and yours must be getting enough moisture there. It chooses to live where water is close by but I have some growing near the edge of the meadow. It's not as tall as the plants near the stream.

I'm guessing it must be taking water from underground Lori as I have it in a large bed backing onto tall conifers as you can see in the photo they generally take all the moisture from the surrounding area ,there's a ditch the other side of the conifers I imagine there's enough water seepage from that to keep them growing well ,I guess these are approx 4 ft tall ... ...

it's always bothered me that they attach the "W" word to these beautiful plants. We call it "Joe Pye Weed" here..for some reason. will have to look that one up. It has a nice scent too...very light. We also have E. rugosum which is white (?) and very scented. Have seen pics of it growing amid some beautiful lavender-blue monarda. smashing!
