Cotinus Grace

One of my favourite shrubs, lost two unfortunately to verticillium wilt....

What a shame, never heard of that disease :-(

Me neither, but it might explain why I lost my two as well ..gave up after that. Its a really beautiful shrub though. They don't like being moved do they? I moved my 'Young Lady' a couple of years ago and its only just forgiven me. I just moved my Golden Spirit and it immediated curled up. HOpefully it will have decided to live by spring!

Thanks Sheila. I wonder if Sambucus Sutherland gold suffers from a particular disease, I know yours is fine Karen, I've lost 2 plus a cutting and my neighbours established one has died too. I didn't realise until DD said that Crataegus Paul's Scarlet gets diseased too, I lost one too.

We have one left now Grace, but she is on the other side of the garden some distance from where the other ones died...
They do resent being moved, good luck with Green Spirit Karen.....

Let's hope Grace survives DD!

Agree, gorgeous colour. I've also lost big shrubs to verticillium wilt, viburnum & philadelphus.

I love cotinus' colour... the same colour as the euonymus at this time of year. Makes a person wonder about the genetic viability of the "new" varieties. Perhaps it's time to revisit the specie? I tried Cotinus coggygria and it didn't like the spot I chose...or my climate for that matter. It might be time to try again.

Dawn, it was a shame at the time but then it allowed me to plant the perennials we have now.
