I would like to ask you Dd, if your black Bamboo is in a large container. If so how big/tall and does it have a need a bottom in order to stop the roots running?

Siris it is in the ground, all our plants are in the ground! we root prune them all every year!! you can buy a bamboo barrier! or plant in an old bin, it will be some time before your plant starts to run!! ours was at least ten years old!!

Thanks for that info, I have potted mine into a large plant pot, will then put in a larger bucket before planting out.

Now you've both given me an idea. I have a large tub to fill & a bamboo would be just the thing. Shall I wait till spring now? I will look up different varieties. Need something attractive but not over vigorous.
