Great photo!

The whole length of the river for many miles has Black Poplar trees lining its banks (as well as some other trees, whose identity I don't know), & in autumn they turn the most magnificent lemon yellow. From the air the river, which is normally green, looks like a yellow ribbon laid out on the land below!

This particular photo I took from the bridge which crosses the river & is a very popular place to take photos of Cuenca. As you see the old city is reflected off the river surface & can look very spectacular in autumn!

Thank you very much, Posy! It is a photo I like quite a bit! There are lots of places in & around Cuenca where you can take the most wonderful photos! It very popular with artists, too, who set up their easels all over the place & sit down & paint the landscape!

We had an artist friend, English like me & married to a woman from Cuenca, like me! He would often jump into his little van & take off for the day to paint a scene somewhere around Cuenca!

Yes, it was! There are two river valleys (like miniature Colorado Canyons) called "Hoz del Jucar" & "Hoz del Huecar" where there are lots of very interesting plants. The Huecar River valley is especially rich in flora of all kinds in spite of the climate being very dry. It was one of my favourite to visit - more so in spring than at other times of the year.

The photo above is of the River Jucar &, although you can't see it in this photo, the River Huecar flows into the Jucar at about the middle of the photo. When the rivers are in flood the Huecar barges it's way 3/4 across the Jucar before it's turned downstream.

The rivers are also different colours, the Jucar is normally green whereas the Huecar is transparent. When in flood the Jucar swells tremendously & turns a chocolate brown but the Huecar doesn't really change colour it just becomes dirty water.

I've taken many photos but I haven't got any on my computer or I would be able to show you.
