The Camellias were in full flower in Balboa Park, they typically start flowering the end of October or beginning of November here. It's amazing they look so well with the very hot weather and no rain. They're all planted on the north-facing side of buildings for shade. Photo taken Jan. 1, 2018.

Yes, there's many very large Camellia trees here. They are usually planted in the coolest northern spot in the garden...or on the northern sides of buildings. I'm going to post a few more pics of some flowering.

The Botanical Building was closed on New Year's Day.
The park will probably looks really good now with all the rain that fell this week. I may go to Balboa Park sometime this holiday weekend (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

Might be 65f today Andy and warmer tomorrow. If its not raining..the temps creep up. That's the perfect bay area winter.
I can water in summer and no dirty looks!

It was 87 degrees in many areas in San Diego County this past Saturday. I can't believe how consistently warm it's been this winter. I see several mango trees starting to bud or flower. I will have to get some pics soon (I've just been too busy).

The Corona Coconut palm might have had a warmer winter then in Florida.
The San Diego Dec-Jan temps must be a record for average? Mid to uppers 70's? Those are my early summer averages

It quite possible. I know Florida has had some really bad cold spells this winter. We've been having middle-of-summer temps. Not sure what the average highs have been so far for January.
I noticed so many trees, plants flowering very early this year.
