A few Snowdrops are popping their heads out of the ground here & I've even seen my first Crocuses of the year, a very pale lavender blue that's always the first to come into flower!

There are a few winter flowering shrubs around but that's about it! Though I was truly flabbergasted yesterday to see a climbing rose, yellow, in flower! Other years I've seen it as one of the first to come into flower as early as late April - but in the middle of January - totally unheard of! ?

Balcony,

That's terrific you have some flowering plants coming out in January. It's always nice to have flowering plants, trees in the middle of winter. :>))

We have many tropical, subtropical trees trees, plants that bloom in winter. Some are: Bauhinia, Calliandra species, Erythrina species, Odontonema, Tabebuia, Eriobotrya japonica, Callistemon, Schefflera actinophylla.

You are extremely lucky to live in a climate like that! But I imagine form time to time you might like a bit more variation in your weather - especially a bit more rain or even - like we have had today - a little snow! ?

Yes, I do feel very lucky! I'd definitely love more rain! We are well below normal for rainfall. Snow, I definitely wouldn't want...it would kill all my plants and trees. It's only snowed once in San Diego at the higher elevations (1,000 ft or 325 m or more) of the city. It was back in 1967...this was the only time in San Diego's recorded weather history dating back to 1850.
