San Diego Zoo is a world-famous. People come from all around the world to go to it. It's the most comprehensive zoo in the U.S. and is a world-class botanical garden...one of the best in the U.S. The plants are actually insured for more than the animals.
Here's some information that's pretty accurate about the SD Zoo.

The San Diego Safari Park in San Pasqual (Part of San Diego close to Escondido in northern SD County) is much larger than the SD Zoo. They both belong to the zoological association. It's 20 times larger as far as land area than the SD Zoo. I don't go there much as it's a 30 to 45 minutes drive north from where I live. It's always blistering hot out there most of the time, also.
