People we paid. Actually you can see in my red banana photos they got some all over the fence.
I couldn't watch over them all day.
My advise? Watch them all day.

You should be getting fruit by June or July.

Until right now Andy,I haven't had to water it this winter. But,today I will. Its been near a month of no rain. Even in the shady areas..its drying out.
Its got more then that of course in buds....soon will make a nice photo.
I'm hoping to get Mango's and Santa Rosa plums this year. Not a sure thing as the SR is small- 6' and new. Cross fingers.

As long as it doesn't rain too much and get too cold the flowers should set some fruit. The mango trees here are in full flower. They look like they did a few years ago when it was really hot in February. I really do need to take some pics. I've just been super busy these days.

ha-well,I have had extra time with the wife visiting her family. So,as I go around paying the bills..and zig zag back all over Hayward looking for a street I haven't been down.

Watered the Mango. Just waiting for April so I can green it up with fertilizer. I have a second smaller Mango- always has a deep green color,but struggles as best I can guess,with the clay soil. Wait it out is all I can do. Its about 3' when it should be fence tall by now.

Different mango varieties grow at different speeds here. I noticed one thing...if someone plants a mango into the ground doesn't water nor feed it, it will grow very slowly. Give it regular feedings (very light nitrogen) and lots of water in summer it will grow extremely fast! The little mango orchard I see on the way to work on a big property is doing so well! I see the mangoes are putting out new leaves and the mangoes must be over 8 ft tall now. They were just planted last spring and must have been 4 or maybe 5 ft tall. Some of their larger mangoes are flowering (not the ones planted last year, though).

This one was a fast grower from seed...then when I planted it. I didn't amend the soil. Its been amended many times over the years as it used to be where I grew vegetables. I should have mixed perlite. Its got little red new leaves..but its undersized. The color is deep green. Always has been Andy. I was hoping it would be a stronger grower.

Generally, in the ground it should grow faster. Maybe it just needs a little feeding. I hear seaweed fertilizer with worm casting are the best for mango trees. I've read the chemical fertilizers like chelated 16-16-16 are horrible for mango trees. Maybe this is why my little Keitt mango tree died. I used to give it a lot of this fertilizer and it got crowded out by other plants.

I might get some of that . Seaweed seems to suit many plants. Is that a water soluble or is it a powder?

Seaweed fertilizer is liquid. It's a good low nitrogen fertilizer.

We past the worst. No frost and I think 35 is accurate. I sure wish I was about 25 or so to really enjoy the warmer climate.
You know in the 70's this would have been a plant melting freeze. I'm sure of that.

I saw the list of lows around the Bay Area my friend sent from there. Many areas were around freezing, according to his list. I saw 31 degrees in most of Hayward.

I hear there's another cold storm heading down south, again! Ugh! Hopefully, it's not as cold as this last one!

31? No way. Lowest I saw was 34 and highest low was 38. Believe me..around 34 even Ensente Maurelli will start to melt. Brugs..

All my family up there are saying it's freezing in most of the SF Bay Area.

I know it's been exceptionally cold here in San Diego. Some places like Ramona yesterday morning went down to 23 degrees. Ramona is a high valley around 1,500 ft, though. We had frost advisories for the valleys yesterday morning, also.

I know yesterday morning's low (where I live) was 40 degrees and this morning it was 41 degrees. These are the coldest temps we've had all winter long. It feels very cold here! BRRR! I can't wait until this weekend when it get back to about 70!

Are you near 91941? It kept showing this week down to 36f in La Mesa. Same for Friday.
No freezes in the inner bay area- Jim Dent posted he was at 35f. SF downtown probably never went below 40f. Days have been sunny so 57-59f is livable. March the rains return..but I'm sure 70's will also mid month.
The night after night of 30's isnt doing the tropicals any favors..but some like Pandanus are taking it fine. Dry cold they can take.

It was cold this morning, though. 40 degrees for the the morning low. Yikes! That's really cold for this time of year.

I know it was snowing on top of Mt. Laguna yesterday. Mt. Laguna (at 6,000 ft) got 3 inches of snow.

We had one last night of deep cold...but it must have been in the 34f range..Brugs are in leaf and bloom. My canary in the coal mine for a freeze or even light frost.
We had like a tenth of an inch of rain..never noticed it!
They say we are developing a wet weather pattern in early March.
Would be nice to have one more big storm roll in. By the end of March..that's pretty much the end of our rainy season.

The Mango looks a little unhappy at the every night of 30's. But,other then that..no damage. Interesting to see it growing forwards..more light and hot sun off the roof.
I almost planted it forwards..but that little yard has a slant. Forwards that area gets soaked in winter. I think what's going on is- the roots are better where I planted it and now that its branching out..its going for hottest sun. Any sunny day and the air over that low roof must go to 70-100f depending on season.

That's pretty cold for this time of year, there. I know it's been really chilly here. This morning another 40 degree low. Wow! That's pretty amazing for this area. I usually only get one or two mornings a year at that temp here. It's suppose to get up to about 70 degrees here today and tomorrow mid-60's, then plummet on Tuesday when some really cold rains come to SD.

Rained last night. Sunny today but well under the average,52 vs 62.
Last Feb was cool also..but the lows were higher.
Except for banana's everything looks good.

It rained hard yesterday early morning around 1:00 a.m. until around 9:00 a.m. It was nice to see the rain!

It's still very cool here (for this time of year). My sister said the hills were covered with snow around Livermore.

Mt. Laguna had 7 inches of snow yesterday. Some snow (a trace) fell down to Alpine at 1,800 or 1,900 ft.
