Another South African bulb. The stem on this was attacked by slugs, so I use a metal coat hanger to provide support. Needs sunny days to open.

The pots are crammed together, so the little beasties have no problem moving around. I did put copper tape around a pot that stood alone, but something still managed to get in and eat a lot off a dahlia. Unlike you in the UK, this is the time of year slugs and snails are the most active.

Thanks. I am hoping another bulb of this will give a better flower when things warm up a little.

And the slugs leave it alone

Wow- a Beauty. With the wire and stems..could be some kind of spider. Or a flower with a watermelon painted on the petals. Unique.

You will have to try the vaseline Wylie.

On the pot where you used copper tape did you cover the drainage hole with fine mesh before planting it up. Nasties can get in through that hole. It is a beautiful plant.

The pot was sitting in a dish that had water in it (I haven't had the snow the UK did, but it has been raining to some degree every day for the past 2 weeks. I hadn't heard about the vaseline trick, so I'll give it a try. The dahlia I have planted out in a field gets left alone by all the bugs/slugs, and it is full of new growth.
