Sorry to hear that, Janey, all I ever do is cut the dead flower stems off & put them in the kitchen or bedroom windows & leave them to get on with it!
This particular plant was given to my wife for Mother's Day 2017 at our church. The flowers perhaps lasted a couple of months & then I put it in our bedroom window where it has been ever since! The window faces more or less southeast so gets lots of sun, when there is any that is, from when it rises to around 11am or so. It can get pretty warm there at times I can tell you!
The orangey colour of the flowers make quite a contrast to the bleak white of the snow outside!
