This beehive was never meant to be - torn apart by last week's Nor'easter storm.

Shame Paul. If it's from a bee's nest, it's usually made of wax but if it's wasps it's paperlike.

There's a wasp to the far left emerging. Nature never gives up.

Unfortunately a total loss, but look what a marvelous feat of engineering, precisely measured conjoined hexagons. This is the design we copied which enables us to fly? The wasps had it figured out already. Thanks for correction

Nature never ceases to amaze. Wasps chew on wood and the nest is constructed of cellulose, and bees make their nest from their wax gland.

I use bees wax as a lip balm, the church uses it for candles & it has many other uses - amazing for sure!

I used to make candles from ours Paul. When we cut across the combs containing the honey, we put the discarded wax into a saucepan with water an simmer for a minute to release the impurities then let it get cold and set. Then take the wax and melt it to make the candles with. The combs with the honey in were spun and the honey went into a container with a tap on the bottom and after letting that settle for a while it could be put into the jars from there.

I would love access to fresh honey. I've seen documentaries where it can be eaten with the wax.
