I have a large epi and a cereus. The white flowered cereus is from cuttings from a friend in the US. It's not received any pampering and still survives..the red epi has bloomed in the heat of summer. will have to put it outdoors when the weather becomes consistently warm overnight. The flowers of both are just unreal! gorgeous things.

Lori,
It's a pretty easy plant to grow outdoors here...as long as they don't get too much hot sun.
I have a pink, magenta and white, which can grow HUGE! Epiphyllum oxypetalum can grow into to trees up to 30' (or 10 m) high. I've never had one fruit, though. I'm curious to see how it taste, I heard it's similar to dragon fruit (Hylocereus undatus). Dragon fruit is grown everywhere here in San Diego. I pass about 30 or 40 huge plants on trellises on the way to work.

They bleach out here during late summer, fall and it can even happen in winter (which has been so hot this past decade).
I have a large Eiphyllum oxypetalum under the large Jacaranda tree. It should give it enough shade.

Interesting, and it seems to be open under sunshine. I have an Eiphyllum Oxipetalum white, but, as soon as the sunrises it closes.
