Brilliant Green finger head in the sun feet in the shade my Montana clematis was south facing late afternoon sun it did brilliant until I had it cut right back for my grandson to paint the fences it has never re appeared since so I ve now have had a Multi Blue clematis planted next to the old woody stem of the Montana.

What a shame to lose the Montana they give out such a display, we enjoy our neighbours pink one (Elizabeth) as we share a fence with trellis at the top.
Multi Blue is a lovely double variety, hope it's doing well for you.

I will find another later . Yes they do give a good show glad you can enjoy your neighbours . Yes it just started I am hoping its as good as the last Multi Blue I had thank you Green finger.

Gnarly, this is Cl Westerplatte, it is named in honour of the heroes of the First Armoured Brigade based on the Westerplatte peninsula at Gdansk Bay.

GF good to know and a viticella which are more tough in my garden

GG, I'm pleased to know this clem is of the viticella cultivar Info tells me that it was raised by Brother Stefan Franczak of Poland some time prior to 1994, no one is quite certain exactly when & also the parentage of C. 'Westerplatte' is unknown.

I suppose being a Polish variety it would need to be.

Where do you find cultivar info GG?

GF I went to have a nose about the variety and found the info from Thompson & Morgan !

Alot more choice with "red colour" Rebecca is a very good variety as well.

I find it hard to get them to establish in this garden and out of at least 10 if not more ££ I have tried, only two are doing well ... I did have a vole problem and I suspect this may have been a major factor ?

I think the owls around here must keep the vole population in check. I have a half dozen clematis that I grow in pots so they are mainly 'safe' but the ones in the ground are more at risk from slugs that come along & eat the new young shoots as they appear.
The best plants I have ever bought all come from Thorncroft clematis nursery in Norfolk.
