This is one of three African Tulip trees flowering (actually on is a lutea or golden African Tulip tree). This tree is in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Photo taken Aug. 14, 2018.

It's a pretty commonly grown tree. It is very spectacular in flower. I posted hundreds in the past on GoY.

I have a small tree, which blooms a very long time.
I bet they're spectacular in their native Africa. I know it can grow into a massive tree more than 75' tall. It usually tops out at 50' tall here in San Diego, though.

Yes the streets are lined with these in Senegal, Africa. They are quite big bright purple & red. The branches eventually arch like a huge umbrella.

There's no purple in the African Tulip tree. It's red with a little yellow or 'Lutea' has golden-yellow flowers.
