Thanks Penny...in many years the trunk sheds the fiber and leave a clean..mostly smooth trunk. Not the nicest trunk in the palm world, but ok.

I like all of it trunk shape and all looks as though the leaves are shimmering.

Wow! Those Parajubaea cocoides look excellent! My good friend, Garrin from the International Palm Society was responsible for planting the first (known ones) at the USDA Lab in El Sobrante (there close to Richmond) back in the early 1970's. I'm not sure if they're still there. Unfortunately, my friend pass-away a few years ago, so I can't ask him. :>((

I think they are the P. torryli, Andy. Its hard to tell any of the Parajub's apart. I know that others around town were ID by Nelson Kirk who planted them all over Union City and Fremont. He's a local city plantsmen who has done mega plantings of exotics in public area's. He did the half mile of Wine Palms on Mission Blvd.

Ok, thanks for the information! I think I read Parajubaea torallyi grows even better than P. cocoides in the SF Bay Area. I'll have to check them out on my next trip to the SF Bay Area.

I never knew about the 1/2 mile of Wine palms on Mission Blvd. Are they small palms?

Planted as 15 gallons,2 years now or 3?..some have grown,some are still rooting in. None or very few have died.
He's been planting the Wine Palms for years around here. Some are..10' of trunk and add the shuttlecock top to that. In street medians.
This year his planting of Brachychitons and Jacaranda's together bloomed at the same time. Red and Blue all over-ha.
August has been a real water saver month Andy. Low 70's and ch7 Weatherman called it the month of Fogust. Must be really bad in San Fran.

I'll definitely have to see them next time up in the SF Bay Area. It's going to look very tropical up there very soon.

I bet the hot weather is going to hit in September, October for the Bay Area. I remember those years when that has happened.

The weather here has been unbelievably hot and humid this summer here in San Diego. Many cities are setting records for the hottest average high and lows. It's pretty amazing!
The last few days it's been more bearable, though. The lows are still around 70, instead of the mid-to-upper 70's which we saw a lot of a few weeks ago.

Yesterday was a sunrise..then wham-back to fog a half day and counting today.
I'm on a plant hiatus..no adding. Just take care of what I have.
Pruning also. I took off a lower branch on my old Yucca gigantia/guatamalensis.
They might be common..but the base on this is huge and its NOT a multitrunked Yucca.
