How to plant?

Dawn I cannot see just how small ,But if you do plant it straight out beware of slugs they cause quite a lot of damage to established ones here and have destroyed small ones ,open ground if you can watch it fairly closely is best.

I would start it out in a pot because it is so precious, Dawn. Did Crocus not include planting instructions with the package . . . ?

No. There were no instructions with it or on the packaging, just the web page says plant 5cm deep.

Crocus evidently don't know either! I still have my 'how to plant' booklet from a previous order, and under Bulbs, it just says "planting should be twice as deep as the bulb, or a little more". Hope you'll have success with it :)

Not sure what I would do, Dawn. I bought my grandiflora in spring 2017, in a pot, flowering at a local nursery. not quite double your price, well worth it. It's just going dormant now.

How lovely - a very desirable little soul - hope its is happy with you. Is it for the woodland eventually?
