Amy, by accident, not design! There are bird feeders behind those plants so the birds, especially Robins and Goldfinches, have plenty of cover.

I bought 2 tiny plants of the Helianthus on an open garden Shirley they have grown and I'm pleased to say are starting to flower ... I'm missing the birds here we had an amazing variety in our previous garden all we mainly have here is seagulls ,I'm slowly encouraging a pair of Doves ,it;s a start ...

Amy, once I stopped putting out bird seed and changed to sunflower hearts the Goldfinches began to visit the garden. Also, having three or four bird baths/dishes of water brings in many birds.

I've tried all sorts Shirley it seems the cats have had the run of the garden previous to us , they are constantly walking through, when we arrived we had to clear 'piles ' of there mess obviously over a long period of time ..

Such a shame ...

Amy you need to get a cat scared, they do work, just emit a high pitched sound. soon gets rid of them...... we have two bird baths and several dishes, always good for attracting lots of different birds!
Love the mingle by the way Shirley......
I think we might try sunflower hearts, the seed encouraged the mice!!

Thanks Dotty ... the Goldfinches come onto the feeders daily ... we often have to top them up.
