We also have it on some old tree stumps for the first time. Fascinates me!

Are these mushrooms edible?

from what I have read the answer is yes they are edible and the advice is not unless it has been identified by an expert. there are many that look similar and are deadly. in the past people have eaten them but there is evidence to suggest that many people are sensitive to chemicals in them and they become unwell with gastric issues.

Yep, I have those in our land as well, was expecting to be edible. I believe I have to go to a short program about mushrooms of the region before try anything.
My grandma used to put a cooper coin with to boil, if it turns green (the coin) the mushrooms are not edible.

copper turns green in boiling water anyway so I wouldn't rely on it. :o)
don't forget many of our 'coppers' are not copper any more but an iron based metal.
