Spindle palms from seed. (Hyophorbe indica 'red form')

Trust me.THIS is one exotic looking palm as it grows. Look at photos on the internet and nothing much ( but related sp.) looks like it.
3 years from seed sent from Florida relatives.

Well done you. I looked it up as you suggested and they look very tropical. Not something for growing here Stan. Not outside at least.

Thank you.
I have an identification that it might be Bottle Palms.
Whatever kind of Hyophorbe it is..is far too tender at this size to make it through a winter.
I brought it indoors today. Not bad. Indoors from almost December and can go back out in March or so.

It looks great! There's some very nice specimens here in San Diego growing around some homes. It's not common, though. It's definitely too tender to grow outside there at any size. lol! Hyophorbe verschaffeltii grows very slowly so it will grow well for years in a pot.

Well, the other advise Andy( where you been? Happy belated Thanksgiving) is that its H.indica red form. It's said to be the hardiest of all the Hyophorbes..but no swollen trunk. Its indoors now.
I see it as a nice large potted palm one day. No complaints on that.

Stan,

I'm working my life away! 65 hrs/week! UGH!! I barely have a chance to breathe!

H. indica doesn't do well up in the SF Bay. I tried so many times. lol!

It grows okay in San Diego. They need too much water to grow well here.

Here's some at the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park.

For some reason the links aren't working. I did search for one group of photos.
This Hyophorbe will always be a potted palm. Even if its a Bottle..it would be different to have a trio in pot.
I picked my last Mango..and it was full sized. Maybe next year will be better as I removed the red banana behind it and I want to cut farther back the Sapote. I like Sapote, but I like Mangoes better.
And trust my word Andy..No Mango in my area that's even close to the public would be safe. People have already done some crazy invasion of my property to try and get one for free. So,this one tucked away behind a fence is not 100% safe. I have camera's too!
I bought a new Hawaiian tree fern,Sadleria. How many do you see around San Diego? I heard Rancho Soledad has big ones for sale.
I like the new red fronds and its exotic pleats look.
