A plant that loves all the rain we get. (Huperzia squarrosa.)

Its a very, very, mild winter...with plenty of rains. This Huperzia is actually in growth in mid January.
They are tropical primitive plants and have the look of a hanging spruce plant.

we have a type of lycopodia growing in the forest here...it's much smaller and grows along the ground. wonderful stuff but it's so specialized that it doesn't like to be moved into a garden.. it just dries out and dies. It's one of those things that must be sought at the correct time of year. like the little May flowers and ferns. Is this a throwback to the Cretaceous? ..like the tree ferns?

It is Lori. They really are delicate collectors plant. Mine is just about the easiest of them to grow. Some can keep them as indoor/outdoors or in cool bright rooms.
They go back to the Dinosaurs or even earlier and are related to those Horsetails that grew tree trunks and were 30' tall.
I like the primitive plants. I have Cycads of various species..Tree ferns..Wisk ferns. A fern so primitive Lori it has no roots or normal fronds. True. That has sort of naturalized in my yard of potted plants. Likes fast drainage.

I love cycads. I've tried to keep one as a house plant. It didn't take long to go toes up. This climate is definitely not hospitable for them and I'm busy on a number of fronts these days with the outdoor garden as my first priority..so my age old fascination with house plants has suffered some neglect. sad to say. enjoying your pics, it's one of the things that GoY is best for.

It looks very interesting.

I know, the SF Bay Area has been hit with a tremendous amount of rain, even Los Angeles and San Diego have a had a lot of rain. Yay! It's actually green here in San Diego right now.

Its raining again on Sunday..but we dry out Monday and I think will be in the mid 60's to pushing 70's by Thursday.
What a great winter. Its like pinch me, we had a real genuine 10b winter.
Crotons are holding up with only Curly boy dropping foliage. That's the one I would have laid money on to do the best over a mild winter. Plants always surprise.
