A welcome Primula post

Yesterday I received my order of seeds from the SRGC Seedex. This year I only ordered primulas because I have less time to spend looking after lots of different seeds which need so many different tweaks of conditions. I know from experience that primroses enjoy my garden conditions so they should not give me any headaches. I have learned that some of the prims are short lived while others seed around spreading their seed wherever they come to rest. The weather has gone from freezing temperatures with a heavy ground frost on Monday, to a light snow shower yesterday to another heavy frost this morning but hardly a cloud in the sky and a real heat coming from the sun pouring through the kitchen window. The garden primroses battle on regardless of the weather so I look forward to enjoying these new varieties.

Hywel it is very exciting wondering how many will germinate and whether they will come true. They should be flowering within a year to eighteen months.

Already more seed than I want to sow so let another GOY member choose from the list they came Tue and now on there way to the recipient.

Good idea Bjs. As a joint member and a packer I am allowed to choose 25 packets of seeds. OH is allowed 16 choices. I have offered others their choices in the past as there is no way I would want that many seeds. I just do not have the space for them. In addition as a seed packer I am allowed to keep some of the donated seed if the donation is large enough to fill the required number of packets and there are plenty left over. I enjoy looking up the different seed I pack as most are not what most of us will be familiar with. This year I am struggling to do everything I have to do without the added burden of looking after seedlings. Sometimes I get what I order at other times it is hit or miss whether my order can be filled. I did not expect to be given all my choices as I had opted not to take random replacements if any were finished by the time the pickers got around to my order. Now I am looking forward to seeing how I get on with this lot. Given that special or rarer not commercially available plants sell for upwards of £3 each I am sure I will be a winner if I only get two plants as I paid £5.00 to get the 25 packs of seeds you see above. It is not an expensive hobby but it is a very absorbing one. I would recommend membership of any of the specialist societies to members of GOY.
