Hi Karen, He certainly didn't mind me taking his photo and there were lots of little children aboard.
Hi Thrupennybit we have travelled on the barge a few times, once when it was being pulled by a horse.

They only use the horse now and again, most of the time the boat is driven by it's engine. There has been a lot of work to get all this up and running again by people giving of their time.

Like the railways which supplanted them, the canals are a treasure, now. Are there excursions? I wonder if it would be possible to cross the country on a barge? a wonderful piece of history.

Perhaps one day some of the canals will be back in force Lori. It's a lovely town here and yes the people are very friendly, even the shopkeepers are great too. I give my butcher my order by phone for later on in the week and he gets it all prepared and ready for me to pick up, bring home and freeze the meat.

Lovely spot Meadowland. Lots of countryside around here with some old houses to visit as well.
