Your Hostas look so healthy , I picked the biggest snail off one of our plants today another day and the plant would have been gone ....

started a response and Poof! off into the ozone!
ahem!... sorry to hear you have to patrol for snails.. we have our share of slugs but they don't get into my hostas..hmm.. am I tempting fate making this observation? We have tiny little snails...the size of a kernel of corn...I've seen lots of them but they're so small that you hardly see any damage... I do hope they don't turn into godzilla over night. Our weather is confusing everyone...even the snails. We've just come off a week of very hot weather... it took so long arriving that everyone was feeling relieved... Summer at last! my veggie garden is soooo far behind I don't know if I'll get much this year.

It seems that if I mention the weather it changes!... hmm. last two nights have been in the high single digits! brrr....but today is on the way to 31 degrees C. Friday and Saturday I worked on the stones around the new frog pond...what a filthy job. but it's done.. Rufus decided to use my poor little carrot bed for his latrine and I've lost half of the barely risen baby carrots. my green beans haven't germinated... big blank spot in the middle of the bed...I'm Calamity Jane again. good news though... the potatoes are up and look set to bloom!

It sounds a disastrous season Lori what a shame , our carrots have malformed they have a little top with a curly bottom you could only possibly eat about 1 inch of it , the potatoes are good we've almost finished eating them ..The green beans are coming and look to be a good crop ...

I think I'll try to plant a row of green beans... again. I didn't plant any scarlet runner beans as I usually do. the bean teepee is empty and I was remembering today how our Mandy would hang around in hopes of being handed a green bean...then she would run off to find a spot to gnaw on it! I really miss her. Rhyot is really starting to feel at home with us, but his fav veggie is carrot sticks and French breakfast radish! lol.. even my radishes are delayed and I think I can forget carrots again this year... so I have to buy them and the taste just isn't the same. these days you can't trust your veggies not to have catfish genes! I keep saying "oh well, next year.." but each year I go from one disaster to the next. Is it just getting old that's put me at odds with nearly everything? somedays (pfft! weeks..) it's hard to keep the chin up! one thing!... I'll know I'm not the only person eating funny carrots! lol..
