Waaay back in 2000 I planted cardoon when I had a very limited budget and lots of space to fill. It fit the bill amazingly but I never got fruit... It was gloriously huge though and it started my obsession with "architectural" plants! Is it perennial for you, Amy? Mine only lasted one season and I moved on to Ricinus... Don't grow the Ricinus here as I worry that the deer might try to eat them. Newest obsession is Macleaya.

An acquaintance at the Plant Sale and Swap told me that she could grow it in her garden as a perennial and that it was very large. Not exactly as advertised, I find. It's not as large as I hoped it would be but it is a very interesting item among my naturalized hoard.
