That Dahlia looks lovely, Dave! I have some I grew from seed this year on the balcony but they have taken a long time to flower.

I got a free packet of seeds from the Gardener's World magazine. They are called 'Bishop's Children' & have very dark foliage. The one that have flowered are only dark red, no other colours have flowered that I can remember. I hope to keep the tubers over winter & grow them again next year.

Thanks, that is about the third year we have had this dahlia, I have never taken the tubers up for winter, but we live in the south west so we don't get bothered by frost very often

Even here in East Anglia it is possible to leave them in the ground over winter. I planted 3 in Trinity Free Church gardens (the church I attend) at least 5 years ago & they have survived all this time & pop up year after year! :)

I have planted a few of the 'Bishop's Children' seedlings close to them & I hope they survive the winter as well & continue to come up year after year as too!

That's a very pretty one, similar to one I grew a few years ago, and huge faces!

Balc, I've had Bishop of Llandaff for at least 7 years growing in the garden, very dark foliage but a brilliant scarlet flower. There are quite a few Bishop dahlias, the children being seeds from a crossing of them.

Thanks for that info, Janey, I didn't know where they come from. :)
