This is one of the tallest Butterfly palms I've seen in San Diego, CA. It's most likely pushing 50 ft. (15 m) tall. Photo taken March 3, 2020.

Bathgate:
It takes many years. I'm guessing this palm is over 30 years old, possible 40 years old. It just depends if it gets regular water and fertilizer. I know I've seen them grow from a 5 gallon-sized plant to 12' in 5 -7 years.
I have a D. lutescens in my front yard and it had three trunks, now only 1 trunk because of the horrible drought conditions here. It's been in the ground for 6 years and is only 6' tall.

Penny, you probably have the Windmill Palm. lol! It's a very hardy palm. I've seen many growing in Europe.

Dypsis lutescens is a highly variable tree. It's definitely a single trunked tree. It's very tall, probably the tallest one I've seen in south California.
