Thanks all. This was an unexpected surprise. Last year I planted 10, this year I got 25. But I could swear they were white!

Did you plant meleagris as well Bathgate? Snakeshead fritillary comes in white as well as plum colour.

The ones in your photo are Fritillaria uva vulpis or fox's grape fritillary. The plum and white are Fritillary meleagris or snakeshead fritillary. I had only one white this year. I think they must be harder to grow or maybe more delicate. I know I have no problems with the uva vulpis so I can only imagine more hardy to our climate.

I love these little ulva vulpis, mine have been finished for a couple of weeks now.
